Legal Assistant
Hershkovitz & Associates is seeking a Legal Assistant with a minimum of two years’ experience working on patent prosecution matters in a law firm setting.
Job Description:
- Support patent attorneys and agents in all aspects of U.S. and foreign patent prosecution
- Prepare and file various documents with the USPTO via the Electronic Filing System and PAIR
- Prepare draft amendments, letters and other correspondence for reporting PTO correspondence to clients; proofread and review documents for accuracy of data and content
- Prepare and send client billing and debit notes
- Access the USPTO and WIPO databases to obtain a variety of information, such as application status, chain of title, maintenance fees, etc.
- Print patents for attorneys as necessary
- Communicate with docketing personnel regarding daily filings and new matters
- Assist with legal research
- Review and organize case files
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of USPTO patent prosecution rules and practices; with knowledge of foreign and PCT patents a plus
- USPTO patent filing experience, including knowledge of EFS and PAIR
- Ability to conduct Internet research, access and utilize a wide range of electronic databases, and summarize and communicate findings
- Knowledge of docketing procedures
- Experience using QuickBooks or other online billing software a plus
- Strong computer skills for document production, including proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize, organize, and coordinate projects
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and work well under pressure
- Willingness to assist with administrative tasks as needed
- Korean language fluency a plus
